The visiting Valke maintained their push for a place in the knockout stages of the Absa Currie Cup First Division with a gritty 32-25 (halftime 27-15) victory over the Boland Cavaliers at Boland Stadium in Wellington on Saturday afternoon.
As has been the case for much of the season the Bolanders started slowly and it was the team from up north that scored first. Captain and flanker Jacques Verwey led from the front and opened the scoring for his team after only a few minutes.
Boland narrowed the gap to 7-3 with a penalty shortly thereafter but the Valke were in a dominant mood during the opening exchanges.
A superb break by the Valke could only be illegally thwarted by Boland fullback Eric Zana and he was sent to the bin by referee Pro Legoete.
