Hino Valke Under 20 vs SWD Under 20

The Hino Valke Under 20 team played their sixth match in round two of the Under 20 Currie Cup Championship on Saturday the 23rd of September 2017 against SWD in Brakpan at Bosman Stadium.

The Hino Valke had one of their worst starts this season which saw them 27 points down in only 20 minutes due to individual errors and poor defence.

Just before the Hino Valke trotted back to kick off after the last score from SWD the Hino Valke captain calmed the storm by doing a prayer to bring much needed calmness to the team.

This initiative saw the Hino Valke fight back bringing the half time score to 27 points in favour of SWD to the 12 points of the Hino Valke.

After half time the Hino Valke went on were they left off by taking control of the set phases and putting the necessary phases together which saw them scoring three bonus point converted tries before the SWD could score another unconverted try leaving the scores in favour of the Hino Valke 33 points to the 32 of SWD with three minutes to go.

This Hino Valke’s lead was short lived as the SWD got a disputable penalty a minute later and opted to kick for goal which was successful.

With only a minute left to go in the match the Hino Valke attacked from the kick off and regained possession and had the opportunity to go and score the winning try.

The Hino Valke formed a ruck deep in the SWD’s half and saw their defence in shambles, unfortunate for the Hino Valke the SWD got away with disrupting the ruck illegally as a SWD player knocked the ball out of the scrumhalves hands which the match official overruled awarding a scrum to SWD as the hooter signalled the end of the match giving SWD the win by two points.

The Hino Valke coaching staff led by Arno Kilian feels that some crucial verdicts made by the match official deprived them from the much-needed win at the end of the day.

This unfortunate loss has placed the Hino Valke under enormous pressure going into the last match of the competition as they need to win this game for a play-off position. The Hino Valke’s next away match is this coming Saturday the 30th of September in Pretoria at Loftus against the Limpopo Bulls, kick off is at 14h00.
