Crucial weekend For Hino Valke

It will be a crucial weekend for the Hino Valke as the competition reaches the last round robin before the knockout stages.

The Valke will be taking on the Leopards in a Currie Cup 1st division fixture tomorrow (Friday) at the Bosman stadium in Brakpan. A win will guarantee a semi-final sport and a loss will mean that they will have to wait for the other results and if those do not go their way they will find themselves out of the competition. Winning with a Bonus point and preventing the Leopards from earning one will secure a home semi-final for the Valke.  The red devils are going to this game with a good winning momentum after earning two consecutive wins against the Boland and EP Kings respectively. This is the home game for the Valke and they will want to use the local Brakpan support to their favour. Rain is predicted for tomorrow and this will be a challenge for both teams as they are used to dry weather condition of the Highveld, it will be interesting to see which tactics they will use. The Leopards come from a loss to top of the log Griffons and they are already guaranteed a semi-final spot, however they will be looking for a win to secure a home semi-final. Loosing for them will mean that they will finish fourth on the log and they will have to play an away semi-final. The leopards know the benefit of playing a home semi-final, having beaten the Valke in the two previous occasions, beating the Valke tomorrow will deliver a home semi-final for the Potchefstroom outfit.

The Valke have been losing semi-finalist for the past 2 years to the Leopards in this competition, but all these have been away matches and a win in this game will deliver that elusive home semi-final. The home team will be boosted by the return of strongman Koos Strauss and ball poacher Dwight Pansegrouw in their match 22. Andries Truter has recovered from injury and will be starting at outside centre in the place of Christian Rust who drops to the reserve bench. The match 22 is almost the same that did duty against both the Boland and EP Kings games in line with Coach Rudy Joubert’s policy of consistency in selection.

The game kicks-off at 16h00 and the match tickets will be R30 for adults and free for youth under 18 years of age.

The match Referee: Stephan Geldenhys
