Valke Ready for the Semi-final Showdown

An emphatic win for the Valke against the Leopards earned the Red Devils a home semi-final of the 1st Division Currie Cup Competition.

The East Rand outfit will be playing their fourth consecutive semi-final since year 2014 and all these were away from home. Interestingly all these were played against Leopards. The Valke will be looking for the same dominance that earned them 5 tries and a bonus point to power itself into second sport on the log standing and having an opportunity to play a semi-final in front of their home crowd. The Valke goal kicking supremo Warren Potgieter who contributed 17 of 44 points the Valke scored against Leopards through his boot said that the players are highly motivated to make history and winning the competition not just for themselves but for former Captain JP Mostert who was involved in a serious car accident that ruled him out of Rugby. “A trophy will be the best present for JP, but we have to play well to be beat the Leopards and put ourselves into a position to contest for the title” said Potgieter who will have to be spot on with his goal kicking to put points on the board. There are no Bonus points in knockout Rugby, however the team that exert more pressure will be in a position to score tries or force penalties in goal kicking positions, and this is where Potgieter’s boot will come in handy for the hosts.

The Hino Valke got stronger as the season progressed, having amassed three consecutive wins leading into the semi final, will be hoping to carry that momentum into this match, however Coach Rudy Joubert is under no illusion that this game will be easy. “The Leopards will be more prepared this time around and my players will have to executive a lot better than last week. We are definitely looking for a 25% improvement to last week’s performance”, Said Joubert who took his team to the final in 2014. He will be looking for a repeat of 2014 when the Valke beat the Leopards in a semi-final. The Valke Mentor has retained the same team that played last week. “It will be fair to retain the same team that put us into the semi-final position, hence we have kept the team intact in order to take our performance to the next level and hopefully contest the final.

The match will be played at Bosman Stadium in Brakpan and the Kick-off will at 16h00. Tickets are on sale for R30 for Adults and free for youth under 18.
