Valke Rugby Union was founded
The Valke Rugby Union was founded in 1947 as the Eastern Transvaal Rugby Football Union
Alternating between various venues on the East Rand, notably Brakpan, Kempton Park and Springs, the Hino Valke (formerly Eastern Transvaal) has been known to cause the occasional upset against one of the "Big Five" provincial unions in South Africa. They act mostly as feeder union for the richer and bigger provinces, but thanks to a few very strong club sides, the Hino Valke always has a good crop of players to choose from.

In 2006 the Valke were the Vodacom Cup champions, the first cup won in the history of the union.
